Besides using makeup to cover brown spots, there are several ways to make them disappear.

Brown spots --- also known as age spots and liver spots --- are uneven, splotchy spots that appear on the skin. These spots, which are usually on the face or hands, are the results of sun damage, aging and hyperpigmentation. Most women see these spots appear when they're in their 40s or 50s, but some see them as earlier in their 30s. Visit your doctor to make sure these spots aren't cancerous, and if they're not, there are simple ways to get rid of them.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cotton balls
  • Lemon juice or slices
  • Buttermilk
  • Cotton swabs
  • Glycolic acid cream
  • Hydroquinone cream
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  1. 1

Rub a cotton ball soaked in lemon juice on the brown spot at least once a day, or directly rub a lemon slice on the brown spots. Lemon juice has bleaching properties.

  2. 2

Rub a cotton ball soaked in buttermilk on the spot three times a day. You can also use regular milk, but buttermilk contains more lactic acid, which acts as a peeling agent to exfoliate the skin and make the brown spots fade.

  3. 3

Rub glycolic acid cream on the spot with a cotton swab or applicator that came with the cream. Glycolic acid has a peeling effect, which can remove the brown spot over time. You can purchase glycolic acid creams over the counter at many drugstores, but you must follow the directions on the package.

  4. 4

Rub hydroquinone cream on the brown spot with a cotton swab. You can purchase these over the counter, but if you prefer a stronger dosage, you must consult a dermatologist.

  5. 5

Rub a cotton swab soaked with hydrogen peroxide on your brown spots to bleach them. Hydrogen peroxide is used as an effective lightener in many beauty salons. Purchase hydrogen peroxide that has a strength of 3.5 percent or less.

  6. 6

Ask your dermatologist about getting a mild acid peel that will rid you of blotchy skin and increase cell turnover.
